Fractured is a thrilling horror novel that follows fraternal twin sisters Lily and Bash Martin as they attempt to fix their damaged sibling bond now that they're adults. Lily has always been the quieter one - she felt as if she was second best to Bash in every way. Bash was stricken blind at the age of three by a random seizure. Ever since her accident, Bash's parents doted on her - and she eventually managed to create a normal life for herself. Bash wishes that she and her twin could have a closer relationship and decides to plan a vacation in order to reconnect with Lily. Bash soon realizes that Lily has been hiding a dark secret and that something's terribly wrong with her. Things begin to grow worse as their hotel catches fire and corpses begin to rise from the dead. The twins must figure out how to work together in order to save their lives - and their souls - before it's too late.

I'm a big fan of horror novels and this one sounded right up my alley with its paranormal aspects. The story had a fantastic premise and was quite original. The characters were pretty well written - especially the twins, Lily and Bash, who each have their own distinct characteristics and personalities. The other characters seemed a bit flat and not as developed as the twins, but that didn't really effect my reading. The story was unique and a fascinating read - I was enthralled by the supernatural elements and the growing unease that built up throughout the book. There were definitely parts of the story that were creepy - which I loved. The writing was pretty well done. It had a quick pace with good descriptions and details, but there was something about it that just didn't grab me and pull me into the story alongside the characters. Normally I can immerse myself into the book and feel like I'm experiencing everything firsthand along with the characters. This book didn't do that for me, but I can't put my finger on why. This lack of involvement and not being able to connect with the characters made the story a bit of a disappointment for me. I knew I was reading a story, opposed to feeling like I'm inside of the story, which detached me from both the plot and the characters. The story line was creepy and I did love the paranormal/horror elements. I know I would've had a much different, and deeper, experience with the book if it was written in a different style. This is a personal issue on my part and I'm sure that plenty of other readers will find everything about the book enjoyable. I recommend it to fans of paranormal and horror fiction and those looking for a thrilling and freaky story.

Sci-fi junkie, video game nerd, and wannabe manga artist, Erin Hayes writes a lot of things. Sometimes she writes books, like the fantasy mystery Death is but a Dream and the sci-fi middle grade book Jacob Smith is Incredibly Average.
